Keep the ADF out of parkrun.
American anti-abortion campaigners 'Alliance Defending Freedom' have now broken cover in the UK to threaten parkrun with a lawsuit, for letting trans people take part as themselves.
Parkruns are proudly welcoming community events designed to get people moving, and inclusive spaces like this need protecting.The ADF campaign against abortion rights, gay marriage and anti-discrimination legislation, with a budget of millions. They have been active in the UK for a while, but now feel emboldened to openly back legal threats over trans inclusion.They think we will let it happen. Anti-rights movements won't stop with trans people, and we must hold back the tide.We already saw the Women’s Institute and Girlguiding feel forced against their will to kick trans people out or risk expensive litigation, causing groups to close and volunteers to quit. We think this Labour government needs to act, otherwise lawfare like this will continue. Trans+ Solidarity Alliance recently brought together a coalition of over 140 feminist and LGBTQ+ organisations to call for our equalities laws to protect inclusive spaces like these.Will you join us and tell your MP to stand up against this kind of 'gender critical' lawfare, and defend inclusive communities like parkrun from the likes of the ADF?Here's an extract of ADF International's joint threat of legal action against Parkrun and several other sporting bodies, reported in the press:
"We are actively working to ensure that the rights of women and girls in sport are protected in accordance with UK law and, in particular, the Supreme Court Decision in For Women Scotland.The integrity of the female category – rooted in biological reality and upheld by the essential requirements of safeguarding and fairness – is a matter of fundamental importance, not a matter for political or ideological ping-pong.Should Parkrun continue to disregard its legal obligations, we will not hesitate to pursue all legal remedies to ensure compliance"
